The Big, the Scary, and the COO

A few weeks ago I woke up and realized that the only way for me to grow big was to get help. And if I didn’t … everything (including me) was going to collapse.

But the hard part of hiring Ken Moorhead as my amazing new COO was not finding him.

The hard part was getting over my fear of the big scary’s that came up at the thought of bringing another person into my business, and what that means for the company, and for me.

So what scares you?

How are you pushing your boundaries in your business? How are you going to grow?

What gives me the most encouragement, Elizabeth, is reading back through your material from 2008 (yeah, I've subscribed for almost 2 years. I save everything.), and paying attention to how you have refined what you were writing about then into the business you have now.

That is, going from “talking” to “doing.”

    That's pretty cool.

Happy to be on board! It's been such a blast these past few weeks.

As usual, you are right on with your point. I've realized that if my next step (whatever that step is at the moment) isn't scary as hell and doesn't make me uncomfortable, then it isn't the right step for me to take. Each small scary step that I take and accomplish leads me to a bigger scary step, which ultimately will (hopefully!) lead me to where I want to be in this new life I'm creating, both on a personal and business level. And the point isn't even so much whether the new step is successful or not – what matters is taking it and learning from it so I can take the next step.

As always, you inspire me to keep taking all those scary steps :)

    xoxo,

    Lori

Great post! I can SO relate to this right now, especially the part about “oh no, now I have to get to work on the big stuff!” I'm working on it! Thanks for the inspiration.

Is that a “Hugh MacLeod” I see proudly hanging on the wall behind you? Bravo!!

Ahh… the scariness, and the growing pains. ;) I feel on the brink of so many things, and like you feel that they're actually going to happen. Like for real, wow. I can't talk about them quite yet, but I've got stuff brewing. And… I'm also hiring a business manager type person! It's also super scary and all that. I have been looking for someone who can be in that role with me, even though I do like the implementation/design aspects of a lot of what I do.

Anyways, I just see myself reflected in so many of your videos and posts. :)

Rock on with the boundary pushing!
